02 z-28 worth??

Ok so there is a 02 z28 near me... sweet looking car...

however here are the issues...
few scratches in paint
rear bumper has spider cracked paint and peeled....

goodies..
black with white stripes
not what im used to on a spoiler.. kinda like my ole 86 but taller
leather
t tops
v8 with 71k miles

now the guy took me for a ride... didnt hesitate or anything.. ran nice...
when we looked under the hood... it had a red bar from strut to strut.. .is this factory?

also a big question... it says 35th anniversary on the dash.... says z-28 on the fenders but has a ss hood and air intake...

could this be an ss???

now he wants $15,400 for it
i kbb'd it and
$12.5 as z28 with excellent paint (which this doesnt have)
$14.5 as ss with excellent paint (which this doesnt have)

so what yall think? I forgot i got a camera phone.. will try and get a pic tomorrow....

not an SS. The red bar is a strut tower brace... not factory.

look around to see what other cars are going for in your area. I think it is too high.

Ok, if you're going to KBB the car why would you use excellent as a discription if it isn't in that condition?

Also are you looking at the private seller value or what?

35th anv just means it was an 02.

I'd say 10k would be a fair offer if it needs work.

Personally though, I doubt it's really worth 8-9 in the shape it's described as.

also the "appraise a used car" on edmunds is pretty good

http://www.edmunds.com/used/2000/che...8/options.html

as they allow you to get pretty custom with condtion & zip code etc., I'd say 8K or 9K is a resonable starting offer but 71K is pushing... bet if you did some digging you could get an 02 Z28 for in the 10K with way less miles

p.s. about the SS.. wouldn't a VIN search on carfax claer that up??
