Question '00 Z28 - some advise please!

Hi there,

My friend wants to buy a '00 Camaro Z28, automatic, leather, and with all the goodies.
Now, these cars are pretty rare here in Hungary, and unfortunately I don't know that much about the LS1's as the LT1 I have. I know there were many changes in the LS1 cars between the years.
Can you give me some advise, what were the common problems in the '00 line, where should we take a closer look...etc. ?

Thank you in advance!

I've got a '00 Camaro Z28 and I can't say that I have any problems. But I've only had mine since May of this year.

The major thinging to look for from your LT1 is piston slap or cold knock. Some like to use oil. I would start the car cold after sitting all night and see how it sounds. Front brakes like to warp from caliper sticking. Other than that should be tough. Dana (4th generation from Hungary)

Thumbs up

As mentioned earlier, piston slap is pretty common (mine doesn't have it, though), but at the same time, it is not a seriouos problem which affects the performance or longevity of the engine too much.

Check out www.pistonslap.com for more details.

In addition to warping rotors I'd say the only mechanical issue with them is leaking pinion seal in the rear. That's about it from the mechanical side.

Other than those, just check the usual stuff like you'd do when buying any used car: smells, sounds visual imperfection etc.

Good luck!
