$5500 is it worth it

my buddy is getting a motor from a guy that has a shop.

its gonna be $5500 all installed and out the door
346 bored and honned
heads fully ported, intake match ported
JE pistons, eagle rods, clevete barings, all the good stuff
(that also includes a line hone on the main if he needs it because the cause of this is a spun bearing somewere so he's goin for the good stuff)
cam, springs, valves, keepers, locks

all seals and everything down to the coolent
the guy says there will be no problem runnin like a 300 shot on the motor and he has don it for a bunch of other people and they have had no problems

BUT I WOULD JUST LIKE TO KNOW IF YOU GUYS THINK THAT IS A GOOD DEAL
THANX
JIM

sounds like a good deal. I would ask if he has any references from previous customers to see what they say or try to find someone in the area that knows about the quality work he can perform. 5500 is still a lot of money, especially if after 3 months the engine goes to pieces.

"yo man, we're bro's yo, so keep real yo, alright yo, peace yo."

Although I do agree, I saw no "hate" in his statement.

Well it seems like a good idea on the surface but if he is claiming 420 hp its probably because of the heads and has nothing to do with the bottom end. If your running a fairly stock setup like a stock rear end and trans than id upgrade that before you go dumping this motor and a 300 shot on your car. Only to find out your rear end is snapped and your out of $$$. As far as getting that much power you could have your heads ported and with a matched cam and dyno tuning get around the same hp numbers and probably spend under $3000. Excluding any kind of nitrous shot. Plus heads are alot easier to swap than an entire motor.
