The true SS 4th gens were only offered in the 96-02 model years. Anything prior and it is a clone.

About 3 yrs.ago around here(western canada)i looked @a red 96 that was advertised as an SS! It had some phony painted SS decals and a 3.8(LOL).I think a girl was selling it so perhaps she didn,t know any different, but others have gotten ripped off and are just scam artists

I have mixed reactions about Clones. Like if you truly clone a car, performance and appearance, and clearly state it's a clone, I have less of a problem with it.

But this kid at my High School has a 96 V6 Camaro and he put Z28 badges on it because "his mechanic said it is just as fast as a Z28".

I found out later his Mechanic was his dad, who isn't a mechanic.

Cloning never bothered me unless it is to deceive or pass off as if it were the real deal. For instance, everyone loves the Berger supercars, and their styling I kinda dig. Driving a snotgreen colored car painted as such from the previous owner has me wanting to do a couple things on the cheap, such as,
1. Paint the thing primer gray.
2. Put a berger stripe down the side & paint the rear panel black to match the roof the idiot didn't paint body color.

But pawning it off as a car it is not, ie: to aid people in believing it is something it is not, hell, I'd rather just put the '93-'94 camaro badges on it and call it a day, IMO.

Agreed! I think the line should be drawn at badging. If the style is what is desired, then put on what ever front end, hood, or spoiler you want. But as soon as you put a badge such as "SS" or "Z28" anywhere on a car that is NOT an SS or Z28, that's downright shameful.

I was thinking of actually putting the "Camaro Decals" found on the V6 Camaro's on my Z28 after I get it painted. I don't know why, but it mite get a giggle out of me.

It's a one-way street. If you want to put "Camaro" badges anywhere, go ahead, your Z28 is still a Camaro.

true i love ss spoilers and ss hoods but i will never badge my Z28 as an SS! anyways whats so bad about a Z28 i think Z28 is just as desireable name as SS!
