Would an AC compressor still engage if...

There was no refridgerant in the system at all? The freon was drained from my 96 LT1 and I'm going to fix this soon however I noticed if I turn on AC the compressor clutch doesn't engage....

No, the compressor has a low pressure cut off. Once you pull vacuum on the system and refill it it should work again. You can bypass the switch if you want to test it to be sure though. System is 1.5lbs if I remember correctly.

My still engages and it has no R134A in it currently. I broke the line that runs near the battery last summer, and it all escaped. And the capacity for my is 2lbs of R134A

Is that 2lbs with oil or without? Most of the time systems require a .5lb of oil. Generally people can fill with two cans of R134 which would be a little over 1.5lbs.

Canadian Tire has this new recharge system but it doesn't say r134a on it. However it indicates it is for late model AC systems. I was just going to get that and charge it up once I replace the hose.
