Wiper positioning/adjustment on 97 T/A
Wiper positioning/adjustment on 97 T/A
Does anyone know of an adjustment that can be made to the wiper arms to get them to sweep properly? My problem is that the wipers when set on intermitent go to the up position properly but when they come back down they don't just stop. Instead they come down to where they should stop and then move up about 3-4 inches, pause and then go again. When I have them on low or high, sometimes they will hit the molding on the side of the windshield on the drivers side. I had the motor out of the car and ran it and it seems to be operating normally (not jumping, speed seems okay, etc) but as soon as I hook everything back up it gets messed up. I am guessing it has something to do with the way they are adjusted or something. I have been driving myself nuts trying to figure out how to make the wipers operate properly. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Re: Wiper positioning/adjustment on 97 T/A
Just replaced my wiper motor, and having first hand experience, figured I'd throw you my 2 cents.
My wipers were doing the same thing. I did nothing and let it go, thinking they would 'adjust'. The motor went out very soon after that.
The wiper motor has these rubber 'mounts' that basically mount into the firewall of the car. It appears mine had worn, causing the wiper motor to 'shift' causing the slamming of the arms into the trim.
After 4-5 months of doing this, the wiper motor finally went.
I would check this first. If they truly are 'out of alignment', unbolt the arms, turn on and off the wipers letting the motor cycle to the resting spots, and then rebolt the wiper arms in that poisition.
However I would think, if this doesn't help, those rubber feet are worn and need replacement.

Re: Wiper positioning/adjustment on 97 T/A
My wiper on the driver side wipes off the side of the car just enough to mess up the end of the wiper. How can I adjust the wiper sweep distance so it does not wipe off the window?
Re: Wiper positioning/adjustment on 97 T/A
I also agree that it sounds like the rubber mounts in the firewall are shot or not installed correctly. Its a real pain to get them jammed all the way in securely into the firewall. If the wipers vary their wiping range as the speed increases then its the rubber mounts. Also you should be able to hear the wiper motor rocking back and forth if its the mounts.
