I know gas prices are a major concern right now, but I'm asking for advice as to what other things might be responsible for my car not selling.

It's in the for sale section under the heading, "For sale in Oklahoma, 2002 red Camaro hardtop". I'm asking $14,500, which is line with what Kelley Blue Book says and is actually less than Edmund's or NADA. It doesn't have many mods, other than an SLP airbox, CAGS eliminator, and 17" SS wheels.

Is this just gas price related, am I asking too much (I know GM's wonderful employee pricing plan has driven down values of some cars), is it my location, all of the above? I've advertised locally also, without too much interest.

Any suggestions? I guess I'll just keep it rather than selling it for a song.

I think you are right on track with your asking price and your assumptions about the price of gas and the employee discounts offered by not just GM, but every other car maker on the face of this earth. When gas hits $3.00 I think its going to hurt alot of things in our economy. And that includes the used car sector. Not many people are going to want a V-8 camaro. Although, I think if you keep on it you will eventually find an interested party. Why not just keep it?? If you ask me, this is a sign. KEEP THE CAMARO!

 

You might try being a bit more informative in your ad text. Is it a Z-28? How many miles? Accident free? You have to spend a little on the ad to sell it at top price. If it's a V-6, that might be to your advantage until this latest gas crisis calms down. Have you tried the Auto Trader if it's in your area? Any Camaro or F-Body clubs in the area? Be patient, and try different media for the ad. But add some details!

 

Unfortunately, I've developed a lower back problem that makes it somewhat painful some days to operate the high effort clutch pedal. Is there a clutch out there for the Camaro that is easier to operate?

I read where one of the performance bigwigs from either GM or Ford said once that they could make clutch pedal effort much easier for the high horsepower cars, but that consumers might not think it is sturdy enough for all of that power.

 

I actually do have Z28 in the title line, I just missed it in this post. I also have the miles in the ad, although I did not put accident free in the ad, which it is. I've had it in Autotrader for the last month and a half.

If you look at my ad, it is pretty descriptive. Should I ad the VIN so people can check Car Fax? I have the VIN listed in my Autotrader ad.

I didn't mean to underestimate your ad, it seemed inadequate from your description of it. Now, I understand the important details are in it. Do you have a photo in the ad? I sold my '96 Z-28 using the Auto Trader, including a photo with the T-tops off. Our cars are really photogenic! I didn't get a lot of lookers, but each one was pretty serious. It's a niche vehicle, after all.

I'm not a big fan of placing the VIN in an ad. If a prospect wants to write it down when trying out the car, fine. They can do a carfax.

This latest rash of "employee discounts" has clobbered the used car market. There is a glut of newer used cars coming in from the increased sales. That's the ebb and flow of the market, I guess. You might want to reconsider your price, maybe ratchet down a bit. Any offers at all?

 

Unfortunately, I owe more on it than I'm asking, so I can't go down too much more without taking a bath. If I have to keep it, than so be it. If it's not sold by the end of September, I may just try to sell it in the spring.

If gas keeps going up, I'll stick it in my garage and buy a used little runabout that gets better mileage.

Sorry to hear you're so upside-down on the loan. Ditto for the lower back problems, been there, doing that. FYI, I find the clutch action on my 02SS to be feather-light. My Gen III F-Bodies were A4's.

 

Never do a 60 month loan on a used car!

I knew I made a mistake when I woke up the next day. Unfortunately, I listened to the siren song of lower monthly payments. I never did that before and never will again.

 

Tough situation. So you can lower the price a bit, and maybe only take a mini-bath? Do it, it will be worth it to be rid of the problem. Anyway, best of luck to you.

These cars need just the right buyer, that's all. Yours will eventually show up, too. I've been trying to sell mine for quite some time already, too, but no serious takers yet. Which, in turn, is good for me, since I really don't want to sell it, but I wouldn't mind getting rid of my payment...

One of the things that bothers me the most is the people offering you half of the asking price over the phone without even seeing the car. What a waste of time!

Good luck, be patient, dont lower your asking price by too much. We all know that cars like these do take special kinds of buyers. Its not like an Accord, Camry, or Malibu for instance.

 

You might try stating the highway mpg if it's as good as it should be - high 20's with a light foot. Hell some 4 bangers can only wish for hwy mpg like that.

You need someone that both is an enthusiast and is not a mediocre drone. Hard to find these days, but there are a few left scattered about.

 

As a side note......Have you given any thought to those places that take over car payments? I havent had any dealings so I dont know how they operate. I have good credit but am already purchasing a Z28 at this time or I would sell a kidney and take it. Some private people with the right legal documentation can also take over payments and be trusted.

 

I think your problem might be your seat.

I had horrific low back pain for the longest time. I got it primarily when I drove the Camaro. Finally decided to switch to a better seat. No problem now.
