why does fluid leak out top of LS1 power steering pump
why does fluid leak out top of LS1 power steering pump
On my LS1 I've noticed the fluid leaks out of the power steering pump around the cap. Its not alot, but over time it builds up and leaks all over my alternator. Is the cap the cause of this problem-does it have some type of rubber seal that prevents it leaking, or is there some other problem like it overheating and causing it to foam out. This is a WS6 car so it does have the power steering cooler-I assume it still works. I hate having to fill this thing up every so often cause of the leak and I worry it might kill the alternator
Re: why does fluid leak out top of LS1 power steering pump
I"m guessing you have over filled the power steering resovoir. When you drive the car the fluid heats and expands which would cause the extra space to get taken up and the fluid is finding the path of least resistance out.

I agree with Kat, it's very easy to overfill, because if you look at the dipstick on the cap, it's a long way down. I always see people try and top them off, and it will come out for sure if you do.

mke sure its not overfilled, if it still does it when its not overfilled, you are probably boiling the fluid, and the fluid on the top is the fluid vapor recondensing
