Who has removed thier AC

I wanted to remove the Air Conditioning from my car as it does not work anyway, what do I have to do about a Serpentine belt. Any other info on removing the AC would be appreciated as far as SES codes or anything

thanks
Josh

Re: Who has removed thier AC

It's an easy removal, The only thing you will need is a 1LE pulley (about $60)to replace the ac compressor. The belt will be the same size. All you have to do is have a ac shop vacuum out the lines of feron. Once that's done remove the belt and take off the 3 bolts that hold the ac unit, from there you can slide the unit forward to remove the back feron line and plug connection. Install the new pulley, belt, and your done. Now you can take out the consender so that the radiator will get alot cooler. As for SES light it will not show but a code will be stored in the pcm for an ac problem.

Thanks alot Fuels, couple more questions.
Where can I pick up a 1LE pulley.

when I was installing my opti I busted and ac line and it leaked forever so I am assuming that I can do without getting the system relieved?

Re: Who has removed thier AC

You can pick up a 1LE A/C delete pulley (part number 10115875) from Dal or Jason, GM Parts Direct, or even your local GM dealer.

Your existing belt MAY NOT WORK. Myself and other have found after replacing the compressor with the delete pulley that we had to buy a new belt too. It'll be obvious when you set the belt back on, and the arrows on the tensioner appear out of spec. The next shortest 6 rib belt, and I was back in business.

If your car already leaked all the freon out, then there is no need to pay someone to evac it. But if you're unsure if it has any refrigerant left in it, you can check at the fill valve.

Re: Who has removed thier AC

I had a huge problem getting my compressor out so I ended up cutting the lines off. It leaked anyway and never will there be a/c on the car again so no big deal. If you can get the bolt off the back of the compressor for the lines you're golden. If not then well, looks like you'll be doing some cutting.

I got my 1LE idler pulley from GMPartsDirect for $42+ shipping I believe but go through Jason Cromer.
