Who has the A/C Delete but kept their defrosters
Who has the A/C Delete but kept their defrosters
Looking for photos, ideas or a write up on deleteing all A/C components and modifying the heating/duct work to retain their Defrost on a 4th gen f-body.I would like to use a block off plate and pop some holes in it to pass the heater core thru. It gets a bit chilly here in Oct. and there is still racing( See photo)
How is a 1LE car set up? Do they still have all the garbage hanging off the front firewall?

I already had my a/c removed(compressor, a/c lines ,freon, etc.). My defrost worked fine. I am looking to modify the air box to clean up and make room in the engine bay.It may lose a few pounds, fine, but that is not the main goal. I am sure I can lose most, if not all of what sticks into the engine bay but still retain the duct work. I see only having to pop a few holes in the block off plate for the heater core. Maybe I'll have to be the one to do a write up?

The area in yellow , I want gone. The crappy white arrow is/would be the block off plate that would need the holes for the heater core.

Just get an A/C delete box.... or make one. they really are not that hard. the only thing that is really different for it is the cage on the fan really. the a/c one is longer, so will not fit in the a/c delete box. If you were able to get fan cage for a non ac fan and then put it on the a/c fan one. the fan should fit in the box then.
(one other thing... if you use a non/ac fan motor, it draws more, so you will want to rewire the hots to a heavier gauge to prevent any electrical fires or melting the fuseable link.)
But yea, you can remove those.. the 1le without the a/c have the a/c delete box. thats how they do it.

Doing a search for the a/c delete box comes up short for my year or 4th gen. If I had a 3rd gen or g-body, I wouldn't have any problems.
I can get the blower motor and fan from advance for about $50. Hopefully it would bolt in , in place of the ac/heater unit. Not the end of the world if it didn't. I could adapt it over. Thanks for the heads up on the wiring, if and when I get that far, I'll take care of it as well.
I almost have the dash torn out so I can remove and modify the entire blower assembly. I'll post some pics when I get that far. I leave for Texas in a week. I doubt I will get to it by then so it will almost be September by the time I do get it done.
Try to post pics and direction for that if you can. The defrost is the only thing that makes me worry about taking out my AC compressor, but it locked up so I didn't have a choice and the pulley is cheaper for the moment.
Good luck on setting that up.

Well... here it is finally with the instrument shell gone. The heater box is also out.

There looks to be extensive modifying of this box. I wish I had a 1LE box in hand to reference. I'll put the box back in the car without the upper portion on to see where I need to trim and go from there. Hopefully, I can still get this done before I leave for Texas.

Fill in the gap where? The part that leads into the triangular piece? Not so sure. The heater core sits to the right of the fan/cage. I need to look at my GM manual and see if/how the system pulls or blows the air. I am guessing I can narrow it but not close it off completely. I will most likely have a slight pop out in the engine bay but nothing even close to what stock had.
