whats the worst that can happen?
whats the worst that can happen?
Ok so I FINALLY got around to begin tearing down the motor.(needs another rebuild after only 500 miles
but thats a whole other story) I went ahead and started pulling off as much as I could because I have to have it towed to my parents house so I can use their garage because I don't have one at my place, and when I get it there I want to begin pulling the bottom end apart as soon as possible. I pulled everything off, so the only thing there is: the tranny and block(with internals and oilpan)...so no heads, intake and accessories.
Now, what sucks is that we are supposed to get a lot of rain tonight, tomorrow, and probably thursday (about 2-3 inches). The way my car sits on the driveway water would run into the engine compartment from up top. I covered the block with three large trash bags hoping that no water would get in there. If water is to get in there, what kind of damage could that cause? should I be worried about any rust spots forming anywhere? If I do see some surface rust, should I be worried?
The block will ultimately be take to a machine shop for cleaning. The only thing in that block that will be reused is the cam. I'm just worried that what if any water gets in there through the oil passages, or maybe in the cylinders.
What are your guys opinions??

If the block is getting machined in any way the machine shop will bathe the block before and after machining...(before so they don't gum up their machine's coolant system and after to get rid of metal shavings)
If your saving the cam then pull it, spray it with lube and wrap it in a towl.
cool, as long as the cylinder walls are ok i'll probably just have it cleaned. its already bored .030, so I hope that it won't need any machining with less than 500 miles on it. thanks guys, I feel a little better about leaving it out there now.
