whats that pop noise i'm hearing???

my old truck used to do it in the cold after i had just started it up and would be trying to accelerate, i would press the gas, the truck would bog down, and i would hear this pop or snap kind of noise kinda like saving it from stalling or something?
well, my car has started doing this recently but at any given time, it'll just make the noise after its been running all day or just started it up, what is this?

most likely detonation

its when the engine is running either too lean (not enough fuel) or the spark is occuring at the wrong time(timing)

Being a computer controlled engine, not much can cause the timing to be off....or running too lean

I couldnt really be sure without hearing it firsthand, but I can ask you this:

Is is doing it at idle or when you blip the throttle a little bit?

Do you have a "Check Engine" or "Service Engine Soon" light coming on? If it is then go to AutoZone and ask them to read the codes from your car. Ask them to read the "Diagnostic Codes"...they have a machine that hooks up to your car to see what has gone wrong lately, if anything....

that would be your best bet, plus its always nice to check anyways

no ses light, it doesnt do it at idle, it just does it every now and then when i go to hit the gas to get on it a little bit, its not too often but sometimes i get that sound and it bogs down a little bit, and then takes off

I honestly cant think of anything else that it could be....

Mine does it every now and then....(Its the hot exhaust gases combining with the cooler air thats making my noise, im sure...when hot/cold combines it expands rapidly..hence the "pop"....no codes either)

I guess the computer has to mess up sometime, huh? It cant be 100% reliable all the time...

I guess go to autozone anyways and have them check the copmuter for codes anyways, just to be sure. I always do that....heck its free.

I wish I had autotap......

Anyone else got any ideas?

How often does this occur? weekly? daily? biweekly?

Mine does it prob once or twice a month when really getting on the throttle when im showing off or something...but I have no cats so thats expected i guess

I run regular most of the time, but when i know im going to be having fun (friday & sat night) I feed'er 93
