What's a good headlight replacement?

I've got a blown headlight (or bulb, haven't looked to see, but I believe I have to replace the entire light?). Anybody got any suggestions on upgrades... something I can get at the local auto parts store for not too much extra? This would be for the driving lights only, not high-beams.

yah thats the only damn thing that sucks our lights are expensive.. I saw not to long ago a thread dealing with changing the bulbs in the sealed headlight to either a Hella or Hyperwhite.. It was pretty cool

It's gettting bad out there! The last time I went to my local autozone they didn't have any high beams, the guy said they are not going to carry them any more.

Just replace the bulb (9006). The price for the whole headlight unit is insane...

Should I try a different bulb than what's listed? Are you saying I can stick ANY 9006 light in there? Within reason of course...

I'll search for the conversion mentioned above.

Yeah, all I should need is the bulb and it's the low beam only that's blown right now.

Thanks.

Silver -- the 98-02 guys can easily replace the 9006 and 9005 bulbs but it takes some modding to fit in your 95 sealed beam. You can remove the bullb from the old sealed beam and glue in a 9006, but you'll want to do both sides for even lighting. There are no good plug and play upgrades for our sealed beams. If your selling the car, just put in another sealed beam and call it good.

Re: What's a good headlight replacement?

You have a point about selling it. The stock lights are just sooo crummy though. I'll see what the parts stores have I guess. I don't mind breaking into the light at all to save some money though and I was sortof assuming that buying the whole sealed light was very expensive for what you get. Guess I'll just take it out and go to the store and see what's going on.

Sheesh I thought I'd be taking the front lens off but I've gotta take this bulb out - I can't tell how it's sealed - is it locked like replaceable bulbs AND glued or can I just twist it back and forth till it comes out?

That is if the headlight assembly is way more than the bulb.

Re: What's a good headlight replacement?

I got the cheap-o GE replacements for $10.88 for the pair at Wal-Mart.They had Sylvania Halogen or Cool Blue, also Halogen I believe but just with blue tint on the actual bulb for $17.87. Then that had the SilverStars for $about $38. So, a nice selection and this just at Wal-Mart. I believe they were all 55W. Oh, they also had a Xenon for "SUV" applications. Not sure what that was all about - they were $17.87 as well.

Took an Xacto knife to the dried sealant then the Dremel with a hard cotton wheel and got them nice and clean. I've got the bulbs drying now with Versachem #999 Grey - it seems to be the same texture as the gunk that came off the factory ones so I guess it'll hold up. Heck, I may even align the lights after this. Woohoo!

The lenses themselves were some kind of dirty I tell you. I always seem to wash the lenses on other vehicles good but I guess being that they're kinda out of sight on the Camaro, I don't think they ever really got washed. Heck I may even be able to see those neat lines they paint on the roads now!

Any 9006 bulb will work.

Luks = best bang for the buck bulbs around.

$4 each for the 80w 9006s.
