Hmm...this is a tough one..at first i would say the 3.23 car would beat it...but, the 3.23 car is gonna have to go from 1-2, and than from 2-3 to hit 80 (i think)..the 2.73 car will only have to make the 1-2 shift to hit 80...so what little time the 3.23 car did gain..it may lose it between that extra shift..i would say they would be pretty much dead even

I'd have to say the T/A would be quicker.

The motor would spool quicker theoretically with the taller gears, enabling it to take off quicker.

My vote= T/A.
Better gearing always helps acceleration, and 2.73s weren't really made for acceleration, just gas mileage.

Lower gearing means more spinning on stock meats. If the T/A doesn't hook up then the Z could take it. I raced my friend and it was pretty much what you got goin on there. He spun way too much....

With traction not a factor, the lower geared car (3.23s) should have the advantage 0-80 mph. Now, the T/A may be a touch heavier, so that would help to even things out a little. Contrary to popular belief, 2.73 cars are not slow.

im just wondering because why offer lower gears as an option if they do nothing other than worsen gas mileage?

another "whats faster"

same two cars one with 2.73's and one with 3.73. what car gets from 65-120 quicker?

thanks

I don't think shoebox meant that the 2.73 car would win all else being equal, just that it won't be a slouch. A tenth or two in the quarter won't look like much in a 0-80 run. The 3.23 car should win provided no one screws up their launch, both cars are running well, etc.

Gears have a lot to do with how a car "feels". Plus, not everyone cares about max gas mileage (maybe they will in the next few months ).

There are always too many variables in "what if" situations. The car that will be faster is the one that can make the most use out of it's power band. That is where gear changes make a difference. Only a dyno can tell you where your "sweet spot" is.
