Whats the difference?
Re: Whats the difference?
The SS cars came with a ram air hood, SS spoiler, slp shifter, and a better exhaust. Some cars got diffrent SLP options such as shocks and springs, floormats and other things. Whether the price diffrence between the Z and the SS is worth it all depends on the person. If you want a numbered car and a True SS then buy an SS. If you just want a Camaro to modify and dont care if its a special car or anything get the Z. But for the money diffrence you could easily make a Z look like a SS and be faster than a SS.(Just dont put SS emblems on a Z28)
Oh and for future reference just use the search button..theres tons of threads asking this question.

Re: Whats the difference?
no difference. Same engine, same suspension unless you got the SLP 1LE package which they stopped offering in 99-00 then brought back for 01-02 I think. Some got a better shifter, but it was also an option on some z28s. Difference is bigger wheels, spoiler, hood, and on the 345hp packages you got a lid and center mount exhaust. Most people replace the shifters and exhaust systems right away anyway.

Re: Whats the difference?
the 2otl is one of the best systems SLP ever came out with, don't think they offer them preinstalled on fbodies any more though. they're still popular aftermarket catbacks though.
Re: Whats the difference?
suspension was different.
not sure about 98 but in 99 SS's got different springs and re-valved shocks. springs were rated at 720 pounds i believe, while normal z28 springs were around 320 pounds.
pretty sure it was this way from 98 - mid 2000.
from mid 2000 through 2002 the z28 and SS had the same springs/shocks, but the SS's retained bigger swaybars and poly bushings.

Re: Whats the difference?
Umm.. Im not sure what all of that technical stuff means. I was looking for some laymans terms.
Let me put it this way,1998 z28 camaro,red,t-tops,6speed,leather, 60k miles for 9,000
or
1998 SS camaro, red, non t-tops,6speed, leather, 60k for 10,500
?

Re: Whats the difference?
Z28 is the best, was the best and always will be the best. Z28 is the only Camaro! I never grew up hearing about a SS Camaro...it was the Z28 that holds the mystique and the allure for me, it is the Z28 that I remember from my childhood, teen age years ...but that's just me and I can only speak for myself.
that said it is just a name, the SS starts out as a Z28 so it basically is a Z28...still
Z28 all the way!
