What would it do if I got rid of the EGR?
What would it do if I got rid of the EGR?
My car is getting some pretty bad gas mileage here lately. It was doing great, really great there for a little while. The all of a sudden it drops like crazy (getting around 10 mpg from over 25 mpg). I went and had the codes checked and it's the EGR valve number 3 that goes off. So I got a used one (new one was 185) and it gives me the same code. Since it's giving me all of this trouble I was reading about it and it seems like I might be able to take it off without messing up the engine. I've already got the cat off and I'll get my sticker anyway, so can I take this off (or disable it) without engine trouble?
Re: What would it do if I got rid of the EGR?
yes, get a block off kit and block off the EGR ports.
Your computer will probably set a trouble cide for the egr, but it might not since yours is OBDI. IF it does, you hav eto get it programmed out.
I have this setup on mine, EGR blocked off and removed, and codes programmed out.
