What type of tranny do i have?
What type of tranny do i have?
I have a 96 Z28 with a 6-speed manual. I've heard that my tranny was a T-56 and a T-5, or is it something else? And why does the plate on the transmission tell me to use Dexron III ATF?
Re: What type of tranny do i have?
In Case anyone else thinks im stupid. Lets explain to the "old" and so called "wise" that ATF means automatic transmission fluid, and i was wondering why its recomended in a MANUAL transmission. Maybe the old quote's got it backwards, huh?

Even my 1985 t-5 in the Z28 calls for ATF in the case.. proabbly to avoid problems of people throwing oil into AT's because they misread a label.. so they just made it standard that you put ATF into all transmissions.. I do suppose they should just call it "Transmission fluid" now since it is used in both types
