What is an intake/vacuum leak like?

I hade my intake off, and now it's back together. While it's running... there is a terribly loud, ear piercing whistle and it idle's really, really rough. Actually, if you just listen to the exhaust, it sounds like I have a huge cam in there Kinda neat, but unfortunately, I don't have that lol

Is this what an intake/vacuum leak is? I've never experienced one. The only other thing that was off, are the injectors. Didn't replace them or anything, just pulled them out.

Thanks for any help!

sure sounds like it. If it is that loud it should be easily found by feeling the intake manifold and throttle body while the motor is running. Soapy water can also be used to locate smaller leaks.

Thanks for the help guys. I took the intake back off and put some RTV on it and seal it back up.. and the whistling (leak) is gone. However, it still runs rough.

It's been sitting for a while.. so I think it just has some bad gas in it. The idle is starting to smooth out... I'll just drive it for a while and fill up with fresh gas.

Thanks again.

Spray some Carb-Clean around the suspected area's - that will tell you without a doubt.

When you have a bad idle and stalling you know you have a intake vacuum leak. Check around your intake gasket.

That's an old trick that works good. But try NOT to do it on a HOT engine.. Typically vaccuum leaks would cause a higher idle, wouldn't it??

My uncle was doing the same on an older motor and some of the fumes got under the DIST. cap and blew the cap off........scared the **** out of him tho....
