What to grease shifter button in A4 with?

My buddy said on his old mustang he had to grease the lever somewhere so it would push easier. When it was cold it would never push down til the car warmed up. Well my Z is kinda doing the same thing, but it's gradually been getting worse. Where do I grease mine up at, and what do I use to do it? I'm really getting sick of it. Thanks in advance.

Pull the button and boot off so you can see the mech. in the center console. White lithium grease is the norm. You may want to clean the old off as it get gummy.
