What to get?
What to get?
Hey guys, I've got about $1200 to put into my 93' Z28. Car has 166K, in great shape but just wondering what some suggestions would be as to what would be worth using that money for? I'm gettin the car tuned in the summer so should I just use the money for plugs/wires/belts/fluids/filters? Some bolt ons? Stereo?
Already has the basics(K&N FIPK, BBK Headers, 3" exhuast, Flowmaster catback)
Just want to make the best use of the money, I would also like to get w/e parts now so I'll have them for spring to put on.

you answered your own question.
there is no point modding a car when you have no idea how old the "tune up" parts are.
you'd be suprised how many guys spend months chasing a misfire only to find out it was a bad plug or wire!!!
depending on what it has on it...TIRES are always a good investment.

Re: What to get?
In 1993 there were two different T56s available. One had lower ratios than the other. You may want to find out which T56 your car has in it before deciding on a gear for the rearend.

Re: What to get?

i think that was only in 93...the M28 and the M29
one had a lower higher first gear and different torque capacity.
do a search on those and you should come up with info
Re: What to get?
found some:
93 m6 with 2.73 gears the trans gears were -
1-6 = 3.36, 2.07, 1.35, 1.00, 0.80, 0.62
93 my with 3.23 gears -
1-6 = 2.97, 2.07, 1.43, 1.00, 0.80, 0.62
i think the trans with the 3.36 first gear only had a torque capacity of 350# of torque. while the other was rated at 400 or 450#s.
the main thing to think about is how short your first gear is gonna be with the new rear gears. 4.10s would probably be fine in the 2.97 gear trans, but 3.73s would be better in the 3.36 trans.

Re: What to get?
looking up the rpm at specific speeds on this gear calculator, you can select the 2 types of transmissions in the drop down menu.
but in 4th gear, at 1600rpm:
3.23s will run you at 38mph
2.73s will run you at 45mph
you can probably look it up in the codes on the sticker in the door jamb...but i'm not sure what the code for each trans is.
