What does a standard tuneup include?

I was wondering what places do for a standard tuneup. I have a 97 z28 with 100k miles on it and I was wondering what i should do to make sure my car is running its best. I was planning on doing as much of this as i can myself. The car runs great and I have no major problems with it.

So far I have:
Flushed radiator and engine and put in new coolant
Changed Oil and filter (10w-30 and delco filter)
It came with new BF goodrich G-force tires
Checked all other fluids and everything seems to be good
Used only 93 octane gas
Cleaned Air filter

I plan to:
Change Spark PLugs and wires (ordered some ngk tr55s and taylor wires plan to install them on the weekend)
Change brake pads (My uncle told me that the rotors and everything else looked ok)
Lubricate Chassis
Change fuel filter
Add some injector cleaner to the gas

Is there anything else i should do as of now? I tried to check as much stuff as I could and most everything looks good. I run at around 170* while driving, a little higher when idleing, oil pressure looks good and so does battery voltage.

Your list looks good. Another thing to check is the PVC valve. Pull it out and shake it. If it rattles it's good, if it doesn't it's bad. I just changed mine anyway since it's only a couple bucks for the part. Also when you replace your brake pads I highly highly recommend getting the rotors turned. This will insure you have a new "non glazed" contact surface for the brakes. It will also eliminate that steering wheel shake when braking that vehicles are known for. Good luck changing the plugs. It's a PITA.

Re: What does a standard tuneup include?

Should I just rotate the rotors myself or take it to a place to be done?

Does that list include most everything that places do for a tuneup or is there anything I am missing?

Do you think after doing all this maintainance i will get some better performance? Just wondering if ill get any gains or is it all just for safety of the veichle and yourself (Im doing it either way, but it be nice to expect some gains)?

how about the tranny?
if manual, you can change the fluid real easy
also, change the rear end fluid and put more in (along with gm limited slip additive)
if i think of any more, i'll let you know

Turning the rotors is not rotating them like tires.. It means you take them to a shop that actually takes a layer off the braking surface..

It also roughs up the surface so the pads have a better grip on the contact patch.

Also I doubt you will see any gains when doing a tuneup, you might get back some of the performance you might have lost due to old/used equipment. The only thing you probably will notice is better throttle response, idle, smoother acceleration.

and longer life of your parts
the key to stop having things break down is to keep up on the maintenance

if your car is an auto tranny, drain the fluid, drop the pan and replace the transmission filter. I cannot stress how important changing the fluid and filter on your auto tranny is, its like changing the oil and filter on your engine.
