What does the rod on the turn signal lever go to?

What is that part called? I haven't been able to turn off my wipers for awhile (just pulled the fuse) and i bought a new turn signal lever for it. Well, i swapped it out and now not only does it not turn the wipers off, but i can't change the speed of the wipers either. It's like that little notch on the rod isn't connecting with anything inside the hole. I'm going to pick up a new one of those selector things and see if that get's it to work. Does anyone know if i have remove the steering wheel and all that to get to it?????

Everything works except for the wiper speed. My turn signals work, i can make the winshield sprayers come on and the wipers come up. But that's it. From the longest delay to the highest speed i have nothing. No clicks or anything.

All the wiper control functions are in the lever. There is nothing in the column but the wiring. You could even have a bad motor "cover". All the brains for the motor functions are in there. You should probably check the electrical connectors at the base of the column, to be sure nothing is loose.

If all the controls are in the lever, why is there a notch on the end on the rod? And how would the problem get worse when i swapped out my old lever for a brand new one? With the old one i would get a click if i put in on high or low speed. I just wouldn't hear the click when i tried to shut them off and it just would stay in the longest delay setting. With the new one i am getting no clicks at all.

That notch on the rod turns with the end you control the wiper speed with, so it has to be that notch creates the click by turning something in the thing that holds the rod.

Oops, sorry, I was thinking about the cruise functions.

Yeah, the rod has a tab on it that engages the pivot and pulse switch in the column. If the MFL is engaged properly and you get no clicking or operation, then I would say you need to tear into the column to check out or replace the switch.

That steel rod goes to the high beam switch located down next to the ignition switch. It has nothing to do with the wipers.

Sounds liek you might have a messed up wiper motor. I had a delay module go bad once on a Calvalier and the wipers would not turn off.

Then what makes the click and adds resistance to the wiper speed dial?

the wiper control stalk also connects to the turn signal switch inside the column, and the high beam selector rod. Thats what the two holes/notches are for at the end of the stalk. All wiper and cruise functions are inside of the stalk, along with the pieces that create the indents and resistance.
