What Do You Think Of This '02 SS ?
Hi all,
I have been looking for a 4th gen for a while now.
I found a listing for what looks like a very clean '02 SS M6, 51k miles, many SLP options, Dark Blue on Black Leather. I'm driving over to look at it tomorrow. He's asking $17,500 . That seems kinda high to me compared to other cars I've seen listed. I plan on making him an offer if the car is in excellent shape.
What do you guys think ?
Here's the listing:

After test-driving and ensuring that you actually want to buy the car, offer him 14,000 and work from there. Assuming it's pretty much flawless, a final price of 15-16K would be appropriate for that car, IMO.
Re: What Do You Think Of This '02 SS ?
That's what I was thinking
**IF** it is darn near flawless, I had planned on offering a max $15K for it.
He says $15.5K is the lowest he can go, but cash talks.
Any specific '02 SS issues ?
1) Window Motors ?
2) Read Diff ?
3) T Tops ? (wish I could have grabbed surfinjoe's HT !)

Re: What Do You Think Of This '02 SS ?
I would go for it, looks like a nice car, as mentioned though, I would chew him down a little bit. As for your three questions 1) Yes, the power window motors are junk and are not known for durablity 2) The 10-bolt rearend will eventually break if you drive the car hard and start pumping more power through the motor 3) the t-tops can eventually leak over time, mine do a tad bit on the passenger side when I wash my car, but it isn't a big enough leak for me to lose sleep over.
Re: What Do You Think Of This '02 SS ?
Window motors have the same longevity problems as any 4th-gen. The diff is the same old 7.5" 10-bolt, and the T-top design didn't change either.
4th-gen t-top cars are known to leak a little bit at the leading edge of the t-top where it touches the window. You'll generally see a drop or two run down the inside of the window when you wash the car. This is normal, and there isn't much you can do about it.
15.5K for a "perfect" car works for me. Nitpick the **** out of it -- find every flaw you can to show him that the car isn't perfect, and use it as ammo to talk him down.
Tell him you'll pay 15.5 if he gets the entire car detailed, inside and out, engine bay included, or you'll pay 15 as-is.

I greatly appreciate all the input everybody.
Please keep it coming !
I'd like to know as many trouble areas to inspect tomorrow as possible.
I'm really looking forward to a 4th gen SS as a daily driver.

Re: What Do You Think Of This '02 SS ?
Nice car- good luck!
I dont mean to hi-jack your thread, but if you have a change of heart or can't get the price right, the wife is still making noise about selling our SS Convertable. I am just north of Jacksonville and ours is truly in immaculate condition. I am just thinking now and it is not advertised anywhere.
It is getting more miles lately, but just now up to 6700 (not a typo). I am having an idle issue right now, but it's being fixed under factory waranty.
Lemmie know how you make out!

Re: What Do You Think Of This '02 SS ?
Wow....some people must not understand the word "perfect".
The '02 SS had been backed into by a truck with a hitch. The nose needed to be repainted, the hood had been replaced (missing air intake grill) and the hood had some of the worst paint on it I've seen. Massive orange peel that looked a 1/4 inch thick. Obviously no sale.
The search goes on.....

Well, that sucks. Seemed like a good deal. I'm sure you'll find the one you want. It just may take some time. Good Luck.

BTW, I paid $16,900 for my 2000 with 41,000 miles BACK in 2003. That price is way to high.
