I would say for $3000 he can get nice 5.0 fox or a beatup Lt1 Z28. Or a nice 3rd gen camaro. Maybe a DSM? GM G-bodys.

2nd-gens!!!

The '81 Z28 was MY first F-body, although my parents had had a few when I was a kid.

I say pretty much any 2nd-gen, 3rd-gen, or early 4th-gen (whichever fall into the ~$3000 price range ).

An F-body is an F-body IMO .

where's the too fast for a 16 year old speach? hahaha. I would allmost think a 1st gen dsm would be the fastest for a 3k car. low 14's high 13's are just a crank of the boost controller away. Also have him check into the insurance situation before buying a car.

Re: What car should my Brother buy?

to be honest if you find a 4th gen for 3k then it is prob on its last leg. Many 3rd gens can be had for that price but not in the best of shape. It will prob show its age and not be in the best of appearance ie, fadeing paint, body rot/rust etc. Creeks, rattles etc. G-bodies are nice, but they seem to hold there value better then f-bods. However, they will also be in pretty rough shape for the price mentioned. If you can find a 3rd gen that runs good but looks bad then you should be good. Most 3rd gens by now are really showing there age. Fox bods are good and for the price you could prob get a fairly decent one with the above damage listed. If your bro could scrounge up around 4k then he should be able to get something real decent in the 3rd gen f-bod range as well as fox/g-bods.

V-6 f-bods arent worth it IMOH since your are buying a sports car with no real power.(NO OFFENCE)

Re: What car should my Brother buy?

5.0 Mustangs are nice cars, whether this is a camaro forum or not. Some of those things are VERY quick, and they are pretty solid. Not my first choice in a car, but that is what I would do if I only had 3k.

You can also search the cars for sale part on the forum and find cars that may be 4k and under.

Tell him to save more money. $3000 isn't going to buy you anything that won't need immediate rapair to something.

Up the amount to $5000-$6000 and he can get a decent LT1 f-body that won't need much, if any, work.

Re: What car should my Brother buy?

To start off he wont buy a mustang...unless he wants to be band from the family...that and the fact he hates them as much as i do...i have been trying to talk him into a third gen. he likes the idea...but he wants a gen i dont have...so that leaves him with a second gen(which i owned at one time) or a fourth gen. i dont know how easy it is to find a fourth gen. for 3-4g's but it would be a great car for him...what do you think????compare buying a 4th gen for 4000 to buying a 3rd for 3000 and putting 1000 in preformance into it????

-headers
-no cat
-the usual tricks i have done, port the plenium, screens in maf sensor...ect.
-adj fuel pressure
-cut air box
-panhard
-subframe conectors
-control arms
-shift kit

^^ Very true...You need to inspect it first...odds are it's a mess.

But I was speaking in generalities

Re: What car should my Brother buy?

I'd also go with the 4th gen. Around $3000 it's definately going to need some work, but what's wrong with that? barring any major problems it's a great way to get to know your car. Be sure to check insurance.
