Read somewhere a few years ago Camaro roughly means "friend" in French. Probably goes way back to the days where most of Chevy's models started with the letter "C".

So you could argue and say (if you wanted to associate it with an animal) that it's like a dog!! It's your friend. But it's not a "dog" in the sense of being slow!!! And friends don't let friends lose to Mustangs!!!

It was a name that sounded good to the GM marketing guys and they did not know what its definition meant.

Still no Camaro.

It does look like a derivative to the equivalent of Comrade, but it isn't quite there.
So chaulk this up to GM propaganda. Camaro is just a name with no meaning like Kevin or Steve or Lashuntakita.

Automotive press asked Chevrolet product managers "What is a Camaro?", and were told it was "a small, vicious animal that eats Mustangs".[

Camaro's don't suck goats.
