what CAI to get.....95 Vert with traction control
what CAI to get.....95 Vert with traction control
i see that K&N CAI wont fit with a car that has TC, so what are my options? i have seen on a few other boards that some have made their own using K&N cone filter and 20$ worth of PVC tubing.......opinions anyone

Ya, you could do the homemade jobby if your wallet is light - I've never seen one that looks as good as a nice FilterPack package.
I've always liked the good ol K&N CAI made for our cars.
The other ones look odd......

well im just concerned that having a vert if it wont fit at all? says on every site i go to that they wont work on verts, and yes my wallet is very light
but im pretty handy so i think i could make the homemade jobby look pretty decent

Give it a shot then - the worst that could happen is you're out a few buck from the hardware store.
The filter will be the largest cost, but it's not as if it can go bad......

I wouldn't think that having a convertable would make any difference with the CAI fitting. The SLP CAI is a good quality piece, and works with ASR (TC). The problem with other CAI's is just a matter of interference between the brake solonoid block and CAI. I've heard of people modifying various CAIs to work in ASR cars.
Re: what CAI to get.....95 Vert with traction control
I have a '95 Z28 convertible with the traction control and use the K & N CAI kit. It was installed by the previous owner and where the potential trouble lies is the CAI tube will rub against the forward-most hard brake line on the proportioning valve. It's too tight of a fit between that and the left rear corner of the upper radiator support.
The previous owners answer for this was to place a piece of 1/4" thick dense foam between the CAI tube and the brake line as a buffer. There was still rubbing between the two pieces, but I guess better the brake line rubbing against that than the hard plastic of the CAI tube.
My solution was to dremel away a small portion of the plastic upper radiator support corner, providing more room. Not a lot has to be taken off and unless K & N has changed the shape of the CAI tube, I see no reason why you shouldn't be able to use one as well.

Oh yeah, you could also dremel away a small portion of the CAI tube too, where it would contact the brake line. Getting over zealous there would net you a nice hole in the tube though, but wouldn't be that hard to patch back up.

The intake comes nowhere near the traction control box and doesn't rub on the brake distribution block. I have a Moroso (very similar) and traction control on my 95.
Having had the K&N FIPK on my last Z28 (94) I must say, I think it's slightly better than the Moroso. For whatever reason... I think the inside diameter of the pipe is bigger.
