what is the best way to fix this?
what is the best way to fix this?
So I was stopped at a stoplight last night and got quite the surprise. That said, this is what happened.
So should I try to fix it myself or let their insurance take care of it, or take the money and pay a bit extra to have a respectable company repaitr it?

Re: what is the best way to fix this?
That is some major damage. The entire rear of the car is punched in. That'll take some work on a frame machine to pull out.
Leave it to the pros. I hope it's not totalled, but it might be. It is possible the rear frame rails are damaged as well.

Let their insurance take care of it, but don't sign off on it unless you're completely satisified with the repairs. Looks similar to what happened to a friend of mine, car is fine today. Look underneath for any unibody/suspension damage. Think you'll be OK, hang in there.
Re: what is the best way to fix this?
The thing I noticed is the quarter panel gap between the deck lid by the fin. It is close at the bottom and wide at the top. The quarter is rippled in a couple places also. Of course, the tail panel is also pushed way in leaving the deck lid to hang over it.
I'd say it'll need to be pulled strait, have metal work done on the quarter to get it all strait. It'll need to be repainted from the doors back. New bumper, new bumper support and bumper cover. New tail panel, and the tail lights are most likely also broken where they mount to the car.

my tail light is actually good... proof that those taillight cover protect your lights! I'm going to take a rubber mallet and persuade it on the mounting studs.
Re: what is the best way to fix this?
im with everyone else so far, let the insurance company take care of it, theres to many parts that are damaged.. this is why we pay for insurance, although your premium will go up, its all good
