Yep... $1,200. The part was close to $500. The water pump gets pulled and the gasket replaced. All the rest of the cost was labor. I love my Green Hornet but she has cost me over $5,000 in repairs this year.

Yeah, Id say some mechanic is still laughing about it. You got ripped off badly. Some mechanics suck!

the OEM GM opti is available online brand new for $180.00

the water pump can be had for $160.00

If mine goes bad, it will cost me a weekend and $350 to fix it. Not a big deal.

I'd probably replace the hoses, thermostat and coolant also so it might cost a bit more, but nowhere near $1200.

jeesh, for $1200 you could had purchased and entire engine from the "for sale" section of this forum!

Re: Washing under the hood

OH! There's no doubt I was ripped off. But just try and find a good, decent and honest mechanic here in the Tampa Bay area. If you do, they are so busy it's like booking an appt. with a doctor for a physical. It has to be booked well in advance.

The mechanic got his ***-up-ens, however. He had to replace it again at no charge. Ha! Rasin-frasin, no account poops! So, I'd say I got two Optis and replacements for $1200.

Cool Re: Washing under the hood

I have a 97 Z and I wash the engine every week and it is clean enough for you guys to eat your breakfast off of..........dude use a little common sence don't spay directly in the alt. or the opti spark. It is really hard to soak the opti spark enough to destroy it. There was a vent tube added in 96 to keep it dry anyway. And no you can't put a regular distributor in your Z. Opti spark was ment to eliminate that and was the engineering design between that and the LS1 seperate coil packs. Go to www.ws6.com it will answer a few questions.

Re: Washing under the hood

Does it make it any safer if you do it while the car's running? That way you have the vacuum system pressurized, so the optis vent is actually sucking stuff out of it.
