VATS problem...

ok i know theres a lot of threads posted about this but my problem is unique...i have a solid security light and car wont start much like the infamous vats problem but theres a little catch...i tried cleaning the key, didnt work...got a new key made, didnt work...spliced the wires underneath steering column and wired in a bypass that measure a resistance of 2.38 and my key measured exactly 2.38....this also didnt work...can anyone help me figure out wut i can possibly do next or try because my car has been down for over a week already with this problem and it happened all of the sudden after i let it sit for an entire 24 hour period without starting it...and then the next day would not start bc of this security light/vats problem....PLEASE HELP!!..its my daily driver

Re: VATS problem...

Did you first prove that the resistance of the key was not making it down to the connector at the base of the steering column before buying a new key and inserting the resistor?

Not all VATS problems are related to the key or ignition cylinder. You might have a problem in your BCM or from that connector under the dash to the BCM.

Re: VATS problem...

i connected my DMM to the cut wire heading back to the lock cylinder as it shows in ur diagram with the key in the ingnition in the off position and i got a perfect reading to match the resistance in the pellet on the key so now how can i test the VATS connecter and the BCM?? because it sounds like those are the last two things that could possibly be wrong...

Re: VATS problem...

almost 100% positive the BCM is bad because of the bypass not working, and also my door locks do not work correctly and the dome lights as well, all of which i have found out are controlled by the BCM...if anyone can confirm this lemme know...because tomorrow i am ordering a brand new BCM from GM $220...

Re: VATS problem...

On my website there is a guide on how you can retrieve trouble codes from the BCM. I don't have much of any experience with them as my 95 does not have a BCM.
