track again tonight - help me break into 13's
okay - went to dragstrip last week for first time ever - well after several horrible launches and runs i got my best of (im #112)
only mods on the car currently and at time are SLP shorty headers-K&N cold air - TB bypass - SS hood - and im running 18x9.5 Nitto 555 with a 40 sidewall...
now that best run was with a 200lb passenger and the car had full tank of gas and some crap in back - not to mention i had a ****ty launch and was shifting at 5200.
anyway any quick things i can do before i go tonight to drop times a bit - wont be bringing passenger, tire and jack coming out - and i was thinking about dropping my exhuast...? would this hurt the car or where should i disconnect it - ? ohh and im not gutting the car
thnx guys in advance- no way im not breaking into 13's tonight - help me out

Re: track again tonight - help me break into 13's
its looks like your 60 foot is bad, but still thats a pretty bad time. Something is wrong there. To put it in perspective, i ran 13.7 with just a cut-out and cai. WOrk on launching and maybe you need a tune up. Your trap speed is even low. I broke 102mph with the cut-out and cai. Now im running 13.02 with the shorties and rr's and misc small stuff.
Re: track again tonight - help me break into 13's
yea, thats a disgusting 60ft. With a decent set of tires and some stick practice you can turn that into a 2.0, and that 4/10ths off your time right there....plus drop the fattie passenger, race with 1/4 tank of gas, and ditch the spare/jack. I bet you will see EASY 13's, if not something is majorly wrong

actually it was a friend who wanted to film in car - my GF refuses to even go to the track and watch cause it makes her nervousohh and looks like i found some of my problems -
A) i suck at launching
B) i suck at keeping tires from spinning through 2nd gear
C) fuel filter was clogged (feels like a new car now)
D) 5 of my header bolts had backed off good 1/4" so were leaking really bad
Re: track again tonight - help me break into 13's
Hold the rpm's at 3000-3500 and quickly let up on the clutch but don't move the accelerator. Don't just drop the clutch though. Once you're moving pretty good, floor it. The best thing to do is to go on a deserted street and practice what RPM you can launch with, and not bog the engine.
Should get you a better 60' time.

Get you some header bolt locks.. you changed the fuel filter you have a good air filter.. Go out at lunch and start making practice launches.. 1500drops, 2000drops.. Just see how high you can drop without spinning the tires.. when you shift into second don't floor it.. feather the throttleso the tires don't spin.. lower your air pressure in your rear tires.. play with your air pressures.. make sure the fronts are at or alittle above normal pressure. Don't drop rears so bad that they cup just nock off 15psi.. makes sure they both have the same pressure. Don't use your e-brake at all today or for the next few days your going to race, resistance on the rotors from calipers.. Don't drop your exhaust.. not going to help much.. if you want to really drop something unhook the passenger side of your front sway bar ** BUT HOOK IT BACK UP BEFORE LEAVING THE TRACK** I didnt' see your reaction time on your slip.. you have to practice at lights.. you want to guess when the light turns green.. between the 2nd set of yellows and the 3rd you better be on it.. Depending how fast your cars throttle response is.. I have a vid clip of a twin turbo'd 4th gen.. You can hear him feather the throttle to keep the tires from spinning.. To watch it might be beneficial to you.. Email me if interested..
Re: track again tonight - help me break into 13's
The reaction time doesn't matter unless you are bracket racing. The timer starts once you roll pass the second staging light, so you could sit there for 10 seconds, and the timer won't start until your front tire rolls past the second stage light.

Re: track again tonight - help me break into 13's
So reaction time is something that a drag racer will never have to contend with? Reaction time isn't a part of drag racing? I missed that while bench racing with a tree and everything while trying to make myself a better racer.. Somehow I thought it all made for a better racer.. I could be wrong...
Re: track again tonight - help me break into 13's
Oh come on now, chill. You are right. It makes for a better racer, BUT he was asking how to get into the 13's. Reaction time won't help that one bit. I agree that reaction time is essential with certain types of 1/4 mile races, but if he is just looking at times, it doesn't matter.

Hey kingman....I was there last week. Maybe I'll see you tonight. Look for the purple Z28 Convertible. I came in 2nd last week in eliminations. You REALLY need to work on your lights. Stage shallow and launch on last yellow...don't wait for green. If I see you I'll give you some pointers.
Re: track again tonight - help me break into 13's

Re: track again tonight - help me break into 13's
on the street they have been wonderful - if i dumped at 3k they would spin for a sec grab and pull - was even having hard time chirping 2nd - but that night on the track i was spinning them no matter what i tried -
i think it was because i couldnt get around the water to line up - tried my best to sneak around but no matter what would get the tires wet - next time im gonna spin em a bit just to get the water off
