Post Torn between two Z28/SS models (buying soon)

So, I am deciding on what camaro to get on monday. The problem is I am torn between two specific models for two specific reasons and I could definately use some advice from the lt1 and ls1 experts here.

I like the front end on this bodystyle, but its an LT1 engine
I think this kit gives the older gen a very agressive look

While this is the same kit for the LS1, it just doesn't look as agressive since the 98-02's have that weird headlight design.

Here lies my dilemma:
The LT1 has a more aggressive look I.M.O., but its also an older engine
The LS1 front end looks okay with those weird lights and the kit, but it
has a newer engine.

BTW CamaroZ28.com: thanks for the video on the GMMG Chambered Exhaust. I was going to go SLP Loudmouth, but I decided on the GMMG for my ride. That is one sweet sounding exhaust package!

What can you tell me about the performance and handling differences between an LT1 and an LS1 in real world driving on the street. I don't
race at tracks, so this is more a car I am going to buy then mod out for
my own personal use.

I could really use some help from the experts....
I plan on keeping my car for 10+ years. I don't trade once every 3 years like most people and I could always goto a salvage yard and grab a new transmission and a motor should it ever give out. Same goes for when I want to switch out interior colors.

thanks

Well, the LS1 is a bit faster and has better brakes... I'm not sure if it handles any better or not. But even if you go with an LT1 those problems can be addressed. Most people will say that you'll get more out of your mods with an LS1... which is still not saying that an LT1 doesn't have massive potential. You really can't go wrong with either one.

Newer is better and there are more options when it comes to moding it. I love the LT1 but they are getting out dated slowly and unless it has low miles a new engine will be in it future.

I can already see this becoming another LT1 vs LS1 thread...

Which car you pick is all about preference really. Buy which car you think looks best, then worry about the engine. With a deep enough wallet, both engines can be make to go fast, and since you plan to mod anyway, the stock performance aspect can be thrown out the window.

There are basically two differences between the LT1 and LS1: looks, and sound. Look at the two different interiors and exteriors and pick the one you like best. The LT1 will always sound better IMO (my brother has a 98 Z with LM1, but mine is still louder and sounds better to me). But I wouldn't buy just one the basis that "oh, the LT1 is older and has more problems, the LS1 is a better engine".

Find one with the options you want too (6 speed, t-tops, etc.). And low miles is always a plus.

if i had to go out and actually buy a camaro all over again, it would be without a boubt an 01 or 02 SS 6 speed. but that being said i love my LT1 and i prefer the interior/gauges of the older cars.
