Hey all, i just got my inspection sticker and boy let me tell you it pays to know people. I just put in my airpump cause the old one **** the bed and it was triggering all these codes, like knock sensor o2 sensor etc. And since i replaced it all those codes went away but now i got a new one...fan circuit low or something like that basically my drivers side electric fan is crapping out. It doesnt turn, well i take that back it does turn but only if i crawl under the car it tap it. But one thing that they said was that my car even with the new airpump was runnign too rich, on startup i blasted some black smoke out the back, and it i think i am creating my own personal hole in the ozone. I dont have an OBDII programmer or anything like that. So what should i do? get a tune up? As far as i know all emissions equipment is functional and working. But it still smells like rotten eggs back there. My tail pipes are encrusted in carbon buildup. This could be the reason why my mpg is sh!tty. The people that i took it too basically fuged with it so that it would pass but it still smells back there and i couldnt tell ya what they did to it. But i am good for 2 years on the emissions part. But i am just currious as to what i can do to get rid of that rich condition.

 

Hmm...if you're still running a stock tune, I would think that might be an indication of the first set of oxygen sensors taking a crap on you. If they're sending bad information to the computer, it could create a rich/lean condition.

 

my guess is your gonna need a new O2 sensor.......like he said, if that O2 is bad its gonna make your comp read wrong and cause you to run rich. those sensors arent expensive at all so it would be in your best interest to replace it soon

 

Do you know where i might be able to get one other then the dealer? Is it easy to install with hand tools? or will i need custome OBDII stuff? Is this a common occurance for 02's to take a crap like this?

 

Autozone carries O2 sensors. You should be able to get out the door for less than $150 for both the left-front and right-front sensors. As far as the replacement, they should come out real easy with a few wrenches and some wd-40. The only problem you might come across is the drivers side sensor is right on the manifold (since there's very little distance between that manifold and the cat). If you can't reach it, you might have to remove the cat, which means it would require a new gasket. Other than that, it should be cake.

 

Do you know where they are exactly? are they under the manifold near the "y" pipe? Is the passenger side one on the manifold as well? sorry for the questions but it is like 10:30 at night right now and raining and i dont have a garage. Thanks

 

They're both in front of the cats. The drivers side cat bolts directly to the manifold. The sensor screws into the bottom of the manifold and sticks out of the side of it, pointing towards the drivers side mirror. You might be able to reach around the cat from underneath the car to get this one. The passenger side sensor is further down the exhaust system (but still in front of the cat) and should be easily reached from underneath the car.
