Time for new tires

What tires do you guys reccomend? I've got 10 spoke 17x9 rims on the way and want to go 285/40/17 out back and 255/45/17 up front. I was really wanting the KDW2 but they only go up to 225 acording to tirerack people. Well now i'm stuck. I'm leaning toward the Eagle F1 GS-D3 or the KDW. I've heard some wet traction issues from the KDW tho. According to the guy i talked to at tirerack, the Eagle out performed the other tires and he really recomended them.

I'm looking for some other opinions here. If you've got either, tell me if you like them. Or why not.

He's recommending the Eagle because more than likely he is on commission. After doing some research of my own i found that the Kuhmo Ecsta ASX look like a bargain. Their treadlife rating (420) is higher than all but the $250-$300/tire Michelins.

$121/ tire, "ultra high performance all season." I don't think they come in 285 however. They are W speed rated (168 mph).

Just an option if you want to save alot of $.

I have the F1 GS-D3 and they kick ***!! I don't car what anyone says, I'm putting down almost 400 at the wheels and I have the same SS rims you are getting and I hook! And in the rain they are great, in turns they are great! I had NITTos before and they our just as good! I haven't had it to the track yet, but I'm not a track hound. Go with them I talked the guy at goodyear into matching tireracks price at $193 for 285/40/17 each

Yokohama AVS ES100's
Size:275/40-17
WR Speed Rated Price: $129

I will personally vouch for these tires. They are the best bang for the buck tire you can get.

Even in the wet..
Nittos dont compare.. Nitto Drag Radials cannot HANDLE like this tire.. Those are purpose built.

So if you find you do a bunch of turns daily and some straight line you will love these tires!

These tires are good for 1.9's at the track.

Nitto 555R II
http://www.discounttiredirect.com/di...tpc=NITHZ5&tp=

They will leave any other street tire way behind in traction and cornering ability. They ride as good or better than most street tires, are quieter than many street tires I've owned in the past, and do well in the rain as long as they have tread. And they are very reasonably priced ($159 shipped). The only downside is you will only get about 10-15K miles out of them but for the price that is still a better deal than many street tires.

You need to try more tires out..

On the street the Nitto will not get more straight line traction than a BFG Drag Radial.

In a turn, the Nitto Drag Radial will not beat even some of the cheapest tires. Its a Drag Radial. It does not have anywhere near a good cornering trait.. I am currently running my Nittos (I own tons of tires.. ) and will not turn as spirited as I am used to. They are not easily predictable. They either will try to grip and scream like a banshee or they will just let go right away.. I think that has to do with the soft sidewall.

So again.. My post from above.. The best, hands down, tire for the money.

Kumhos (had them) suck
BFG Drag Radials (have them) are good for track or dry ONLY
Nitto Drag Radials (have them) good for daily and track but not for turns
Yokohama AVS ES 100's (have them. wow!) best all around tire for the $$!
Goodyear GSC's (had them)not worth the money
M/T ET Streets (have them) wow! but only for track!
I can go on.. got to go on delivery tho!

I have tried many different tires, including (but not limited too):

Nitto 555R II: Excellent autox/roadcourse or limited mileage street tire (10-15K miles). Will outcorner ANY street tire (100 AA and 6/32nds new tread depth or more) available. If anyone disagrees, bring me your choice of a set of 275/40R17 street tires and I'll prove it too you with lap times at my local roadcourse. I'll even put up $100 on the outcome. I like having the ultimate grip in my street tires, which is why I run these. As mentioned below, I've tried tires like the Pilot Sport, and the 555R IIs still outperform them and end up costing about the same over time.

Nitto 555R: Excellent tire as long as it is mounted on the PROPER size wheel. A 315/35R17 on a 17x11" wheel will give EXCELLENT handling ability while still giving very good straight line traction. Sure the BFG drag radial gives better straight line traction, but it really isn't capable of being used as a street tire (unless you just drive straigt to the drag strip and then home). I've used the 555Rs in a 315 on 11" wheels on several different cars in the rear for street and roadcourse use, and they are EXCELLENT for that function. I also know quite a few guys over on frrax.com that use them at all four corners for autox/roadcourse use with great success.

Goodyear SuperCar tires: good ultimate street tire, but short treadlife (probably about the same as555R IIs), a little loud over certain types of pavement, only moderate straight line traction

Pirelli P7000: good all weather street tire, but discontinued.

Michelin Pilot Sport: very good street tire, but expensive. I can basically by two sets of 555R IIs for the price of one set of Pilot Sports, and the Pilot sports will not last twice as long as the Nittos.

Yokohama A032R: good wet roadcourse tire or long life dry roadcourse tire, ok on street but are very loud at certain speeds, moderately expensive. The 555R II outperforms this tire in every regard by a pretty big margin.

Kumho Victo Racer V700: very good autox/roadcourse tire, however I've set similar times with the 555R IIs on the same setup and the 555R IIs last longer and can be used on the street if you want. For dedicated track use I'd give the edge slightly to the V700, but I can get probably twice the life out of the 555R II and they hold their performance better as they age.

Sumitomo HTRZ II: good street tire, low noise, good street performance, excellent wet performance, long life, low price

Goodyear GS-Cs: decent street performance, but a little dated now

Futura (Pep Boys) Ultra Z: actually a very good tire. street performance similar to GS-Cs (not quite as good, but better tread life) for a reasonable price.

BFG Comp T/A: decent street performance (similar to GS-Cs) but again a little dated now

Goodyear RS-As: suck, worse in wet than GS-Cs

Hankook Ventus K104 (wife's RSX-S): much better than stock Michelins (XGT H4). Decent traction (wet or dry), low noise, good treadlife (so far), excellent price

Michelin XGT H4 (wife's RSX-S): These tire just plain suck (probably worse than RS-As even). Poor dry traction, only moderate wet traction, very poor winter (even light snow or ice) traction. Very noisy and very expensive.
