Question Thoughts on QTPs electronic cutout?

I had a cutout on my Z28 but it was horrible getting under there everytime to cap it and uncap it.... I see the electronic ones for over 400 dollars! and then I came across a cutout by QTP for 179.99?? Why is that one soooo much cheaper? I dont wanna get something cheap - I'll save up if i have to for the better ones. But i dont really know how one could be better than the other... its just a hole! lol any help would be great! Thanks!

Re: Thoughts on QTPs electronic cutout?

I have heard QTP ones fail pretty early. I bought one for around 200 from www.dmhperformance.com and at the sametime a friend got one from QTP.

Mine failed when I bottomed out and hit the servo against the bottomend of the car, I called explained what had happened and he replaced it with no problem.

My friends just plain failed, he called QTP up and they said they could not replace it because he abused it and did not use it as intended...

I just got one and not the dual for my z28 and it sounded great so just wanted to make sure.... thanks! and i put that after my cat and it sounded fine but im hearing to put it before the cat...where would that go exactly? and which place is better for sound and performance and also better for my car???

on the ls1 one of the cats is connected directly to the exhaust manifold. gonna be hard to fit a cutout in front of that.

now if you have LTs it different.

but a single cutout will yield good gains while still maintaining a tolerable sound level.

right before the axle is the best place

oh...saw you have a magnaflow exhaust. the gains will be minimal since it is a very free flowing system to begine with.

i ran a MF for a while on my 96 then on my 99 Z28. the guy i bought it from had a cutout installed. he also dynoed it...gained 4hp with the cut out open.

not sure a $180 cutout is worth 4-5hp.

although the sound is killer

I would try and fit it in before the cat for a much better effect.
