One of these days, I'll take a picture when I am under there...
It's to the right of the glove box, pinned to the lower frame of the dash. The hatch relay is next to it. Stick your head under and look toward the rear of the car. You'll see it.

go to brent frankers site and he has a pic of it under his kill switch mod. It is pretty much right where shoebox said it is but the site has a pic.

Thanks, I looked at that site and it got me to thinking. I've always had trouble with the battery going dead if I left it hooked up and not starting the car for a week or so. (new battery didn't cure the problem). Now, twice, Ive gotten in the car, turned the key, gages go on, but starter won't fire. Once I got out, fiddled with the fuse box under the hood, and the one on the side of the dash, tried about a half dozen times and it finally started. Then once at home, I had driven home from work, shut the car off, the after about an hour got back in and it wouldn't start. Same thing, gages light up but starter solenoid won't fire to start the car. I took my truck to town, cam back and tried the car and if fired right up. You guys think my Theft Deterent relay is flakey? I inquired about the relay because what I wanted to do was find the wire that went to the starter solenoid, put a voltmeter on it and when the car won't start, that would at least tell me if the solenoid is bad or not.
Thanks

read the kill switch section of the site i told you before. it tells you which wire is the output of the relay/input to the starter. have someone turn the car on while you check for voltage on that one wire. it could be the relay. is your security light on your dash?

I never thought to look at the security light. I did find the purple wire and have a light hooked to it to see if it gets power next time it decides not to start. I never did find those relays though.

Well, I found the problem. The TDR isn't being triggered. I grounded the yellow/black wire on the relay and it started. This car won't see enough street use, so I'm going to just run that wire to a ground and call it good.
Thanks guys for your help

Any idea how much a new BCM might cost?

Nevermind, I have a 95 and just read where I don't have a BCM.
But what does ground the yellow/black wire if I don't have one then?

If you look at the schematic, it's the Theft Deterrent Module (otherwise known as the VATS module). Got any VATS trouble codes or security light on?

No codes that Datamaster shows, as far as I can tell. But "Security" flashes. I never even bothered to look at that before
On the schematic, I don't see a Theft Deterent Module, only the BCM Over by the TDR there is an aluminum box about 4x4x1. What is that? Could it be that the pellet in the key is messed up? I had the car to the track a few years ago, and started it up and it ran rough. I programmed out what I thought was the VATS and it never did that again. It started (occasionallly)not firing the starter a few weeks ago. What am I not seeing?

You see BCM because the wrong diagram was posted above. You said you had a 1995. They don't have a BCM (you already said that yourself).
http://shbox.com/1/starter_charging_95.jpg is the correct diagram.

If you have a security light the VATS module is generally not going to send the signal to the TDR to operate it (therefore no starter engagement). When you program VATS out of the PCM, this does not take care of the TDR. You ALSO have to bypass the TDR (just permanently ground the yellow/black wire and it should be ok.

Yep that's what I did and it starts every time again. Thanks guy!

Re: Theft deterent relay

I have a 94 v6, it will not crank, if I excit the purple wire going to the starter it cranks and starts but dies right after, I've changed neutral safety, ignition switch, and the starter relay, I was thinking it was my tdr but my security light is not flashing
