Strait pipe or no?

I'm gonna be gettin my 3" cutout pretty soon, and the plan was to remove the cat and replace it with a 3" pipe and put the cutout in the typical rear axle location.

I recently saw a post on here with someone askin if it was a good idea to remove the cat and put in a pipe.

People said its gonna sound raspy and give 0 performance gains...so i'm wonderin if its worth the trouble

Right now I have all stock exhaust w/ stock muffler.

It will yield you very little, if any, gains in power. It will add some extra noise to your exhaust and it will be raspier. If you have to deal with emissions regulations, I wouldn't consider doing it.

Re: Strait pipe or no?

Why do people ditch the cats then?

If it doesn't help performance and makes it sound crappy...

Re: Strait pipe or no?

cause stock cats are 2.5" diameter... maybe even 2.25"...

so you wouldn't use them on when installing a set of headers

not to mention they are expensive to replace.

most people just ditch them since there is no real reason to put them back on unless you have emissions ot deal with

Re: Strait pipe or no?

Ditching your cats isn't a bad idea at all if you don't have to pass emissions. I've always thought the raspy sound was really good on an lt1, and even if you don't like it you can put something in its place that will take the rasp away.

Cats eventually mess up anyway, so why not take them off if they aren't necessary.

I would replace the cat with a bullet resonator than put the cutout after that and leave the stock muffler. That way you have the best of both worlds.
