storing: gas tank:full or low

I've heard many people mention that they fill their tanks before storage, then add stabil. But people where I'm from say to have only about a quarter tank with stabil, then fill up first thing in spring. This is said because of our reformulated crap gas used in my part of the country. Would it be good to fill up, even with reformulated gas, or just put alittle in? Anyone else out there get stuck with reformulated gas?

I'll be storing mine this winter with a full tank of gas (prevent moisture build up) and thats it. I think your only supposed to add stabil if that car is going to be stored for over 6 months i'm not too sure though.

but I've heard that reformulated gas is only good for about 90 days. If thats so would you just fill it up then drain it after the 4-5 months?

I've been storing cars all winter long since the 1980's. Fill the tank up, no stabilizer. Never had any problems. Granted, that's inside insulated garages. But still.

I use STP fuel stabilizer,, it doesn't hurt anything, a friend of mine actually runs it through his old outboard once in while and it makes it run better for him when trolling

full tank to keep any condensation to a minimum

first tank in the spring (gas car was stored with) take it easy on it also serves as a way to run the car nice for a tank to make sure everything is fine

one guy at work has stored his old 85 Perrisiene(sp?) for the last 20 years and he has never had a problem,, he had to work on the carb for the first time this year since he bought it

But what I'm asking is would you do the same with REFORMULATED gas. Are any of you in an area that uses reformulated gas, if so, do you use the same techniques?

for those that don't know if they do,

reformulated gasoline is being used state-wide in Connecticut, Delaware, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Rhode Island, and the District of Columbia.

It is also required in portions of California, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, New Hampshire, New York, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia, and Wisconsin.

but I would have no worrys filling the tank for storage

I stored mine for 6 years with reformulated gas. A couple of bottles of dry gas and a few gallons of regular gasoline and it roared back to life without any problem. If I had thought more about it before storing my car, I would have probably filled the tank to the top and added a stabilizer, but because of the circumstances I just parked it without any stabilizer.

I love threads like this! Ask those same people what the difference is between reform. and "reg" gas. See how many have a glue? Good for only 90 days. And how long do you think it's been in the BIG tank at the refinery. Guess they must though all that 100 day old gas away.

Easy smartass! I didn't believe it when I'd heard it niether, but it could have meant about 90 days on average after its been at the refinery and the gas station for an average amount of time. Sheez!
