Storing a Car for Winter

What steps should be taken before putting a car away for the winter months? I've never had the chance to be able to completely put my car away before so I've never done it. What things I should I plan on doing before I park it for the next couple of months?

Clean it up, add fuel stabilizer, change the oil, pull the battery(charge it every so often) and throw on a cover...Voila

I tried to search before I posted. I think something was wrong with the feature though, because I kept getting "Page Cannot be Displayed". I'll check again though.

My winter storage process included changing the oil, putting on a couple fresh coats of wax, adding some Stabil to the gas tank, and putting on a car cover.

Off topic, but why do people store their car?

Is it because of the snow and slick roads?

For me it will be because of snow. The car isn't very effective when there are 5" of snow on the road.

If you can it's not a bad idea to put it up on jackstands as well; easier on the tires, makes them less likely to get flat spots.

I live in Wisconsin and I probaply do not see my car for about 8 months of the year . This is what I do to store my car for the winter.
1. Clean and oil everything up and get yourslef a 100% cotton car cover nothing from Wallmart.
2. I do not know if you have to worry about mice but tape wiffle ***** over your exhaust to keep those little buggers out. This way the exhaust can still breath without having a mouse nest in it.
3. Disconnect your battery and keep it inside so it does not have to sit out in the cold. Cold hates batteries!
4. Add stabil just before you fill up your tank to get a good mix in the gas. Also, make sure to let the car run alittle to get the treated fuel through the lines.
5. Leave your doors ajar if you do not have to worry about critters. This way your weather seals do not get crushed for a extended period of time.
6. Do not put your car on jackstands. But put on a junk set of salad shooters or crappy rims and tires. The reasons why I say this is because your car was made to sit on its suspension not on jackstands all winter long.
7. Prepare to sit through months of waiting while you hear about other people having fun in thier car.
