Stock Ring Gear Size?

I’ve got an automatic 1994 Z28 with the 3.23 rear gear ratio, I was looking into maybe getting a higher rear gear with a build I’m doing this winter and was wondering what the stock ring gear size is. I’ve heard 7.5 and 7.625, so I’m just wanting to clear that up.

Thanks!

Re: Stock Ring Gear Size?

I believe the 3rd Gens were 7.5". 4th Gens are 7.625". But the ring gears are interchangeable. From the Strange Engineering website:

GM 10 Bolt 7.5

GM 10 Bolt 7.5

The smallest of the GM 10 Bolt rear ends is the 7.5. The GM 10 Bolt 7.5 rear end, also known as the AAM 7.5, GM 7.6, and GM 7.625 rear end was the most common housing used in GM G-body car vehicles

It featured a 7.5 inch diameter ring. The GM 7.625 version used a slightly larger 7.625 diameter ring gear. Because both models use the same axle housing, the ring and pinion gears, differential carriers, and all other components are interchangeable between the two axles.
G-bodies were mid-sized GM cars, including the Buick Grand National. F-Body fitment is similar.
