Steering Wheel Split

This is just something odd I noticed today. I've had the Camaro (97) in the garage for the past 2 weeks. It's not climate controlled or anything, but it's better than sitting out in the rain and snow.

Anyways, I pull the car out today for a drive and I notice that my steering wheel is split right down the center. It's not a huge split (maybe like 2 inches), but it's enough that I can see the airbags inside.

Is this normal? Anything I can do about it besides getting a brand new steering wheel?

Thanks

Re: Steering Wheel Split

I'm talking about just the leather (I guess that's what the material is) is split. Everything else looks and functions normally.

Think maybe it's just the cold weather?

Re: Steering Wheel Split

1. Did you have your car locked for the 2 weeks that you weren't driving it?

2. Do you have other people living in your house?

3. (If answer to question 2 is "YES") Did you **** any of them off during the
past two weeks?

4. Did you also happen to pop the hood and look underneath the car to make
sure your brake lines haven't been tampered with?

5. Do you own a life insurance policy?

6. Do you see where I'm going with this?

Okay, if all possibilities in scenario #1 are ruled out, then...

1. Do you happen to use Armor All on your interior?

2. Do you happen to be a compulsive horn blower? (CONFESS!)

3. Do you see where I'm going with THIS?

Re: Steering Wheel Split

So, it's not the wheel that is split, it is the airbag?

No big deal, just look in the for sale section and get a new airbag.

There are 4 allen screws on the back side of the steering wheel that hold the airbag to the wheel. Disconnect the battery, remove the screws and swap airbags with one that is not split.
