steering column question

I am thinking about using a '97 camaro column in my '35 Ford coupe. I understand you can purposly collape the column some to make it fit better (they didn't have crumple zones in 1935 anyway), but mainly my question is about the anti theft. I am using the engine that goes with this column and the anti theft was edited out of my computer. since there is no anti theft do i still need the key with the chip in it or could i cut a new key with no chip. is there any wiring or anything that would need to be retained to make the column work in this car?

Since VATS is disabled by programming, you won't have any issues for that particular project car (assuming your ignition switch is going to directly power the starter solenoid). You can forget about the pellet and use a regular key.

in a stock f body does the ignition switch get wired through the computer then to the starter solenoid? so in this case i would run the wire directly from the ignition switch to the starter solenoid? now i just have to figure out which is the ignition switch wire and what the others are if i don't need them. What other wires are run through the column? turn signals, horn, cruise control, lights? I might try to use a stock cruise control box so using the existing wiring in the column should help. Thanks Shoebox....I was hoping you would reply

A stock schematic looks like this. The 12v from the switch to the starter goes through a relay (which you are not going to have or need).
The actual ignition switch is on the lower part of the column. Look in the How To's section of my website to see some info on it.

those schematics confuse the hell out of me why would I not need a relay? I'll check your website on the ignition switch. I think I'll have to replace it anyway...the car wouldn't start before I pulled the engine and the ignition switch was on the top of my list of things not checked.

The relay is part of the VATS and you don't have it.
