SS convertible production numbers

SS convertible production numbers
From the "Articles" section here, SS convertible production numbers are as follows:
1998 = 478
1999 = 802
2000 = 1572
2001 = 863
2002 = 2853
Does the 2000 number seem high to anyone else but me? I guess in '02 they may have been pumping them out because of the last year and all. But the '00 number just doesn't seem to fit.
Am I missing something?
