SS Build #

People on this site seem to frequently quote their build number. How do you know what that is and where do you find it?

I'm new to this site. Just bought a 2000 SS Convertible, triple black, 6M with 26500 miles. I was thrilled to find it, paid 19k which is probably way too much, I don't know, but it took a long time to find one that's all I know.

I've built a couple of other cars in my spare time, and I'm looking forward to asking many other silly questions and maybe giving some advice from time to time, so thanks in advance for the help.

Any CHevrolet dealer could tell you. Mine is a 96 model and the last four digits of the VIN tell my build number.

SLP knows. Not worth the hassle IMO.

SS build #

Thats strange mine is a 96 #578 and the last #of my Vin.isn,t that. By the time SLP got the car from Chev. the Vin # was already on the car. Slp gave out the #,s as they converted each car.

The SS build number was listed on the slp/ss package option sheet. On mine it was attached next to the factory window sticker.

'98 and up ss cars were built at the plant and not conversions from slp as far as I know.

Edit:Just checked my vin#, it is not the same as the ss build number.

Low mileage, I bought a 2000 SS black vert, M6 with 52,xxx back in august for 13000, looked everywhere, had it listed for 16500 , but yeah, you have to call SLP to get that information

I called SLP in New Jersey, and they gave me another number to call (in Michigan I think); I gave them the VIN, and they gave me the build #. Easy. Its not the same as the VIN, at least on earlier models.

Is that still doable? I thought I remember someone saying they couldn't do that anymore.. Still have the #? And did it cost anything?

I did it in early 2000, and no longer have the #. If you check with SLP they can probably tell you, but it was free when I did it.

VIN never had an association with the SLP build number.

Just call SLP Performance Parts in NJ @ 732.349.2109

Have your VIN handy, and no, there's no charge for it.
