Speedometer:changeout

so i have plans of getting a speedometer that goes to 150mph to change out the one i have in my 1995 z28. what i want to ask is how do you change it out?do you hve to take the whole dash appart? or just a few bolts? i'm trying to figure all of it out before i start so i have some clue of what i am doing. any help would be appriciated.

My 94 z came with a 160 mph speedo. I would guess you just swap the 120 out for a 160 and be done with it. YOu have to remove the bezel trim then the speedo comes out with a few bolts. Then un plug it and plug the new one it.

yeah, you basicly have to take apart your whole dash including the dash pad. i did this with mine and it was pretty much an all day project. its not hard at all, its just time consuming!

Won't you have to tune it for the new speedo as well?

I believe the speedo's are the same in the Camaro's as they are in the Firebirds to change. I did the 110-150 swap in my Formula last year. It actually is very easy. You don't have to pull apart the dash too much. Just the outer shell and undo a few bolts and then pull it out! If you want it to be legal you'll need to get your speedo notorized for mileage, and have your new one synced up to the correct mileage. Then, its just a matter of putting it in, putting the bolts back in, and putting the outer shell back on.

Here's a pic if my finished product in my Formy,

The early 93-96 Camaro dash is completely different than the Firebird dash. The 97+ Camaro dash is very very similar to the bird dash though. For the early Camaro dash you have to pull the windshield pillars out. Remove/Break your dash pad. Then you have to remove the panel under the steering column and after that remove the trim around the radio. Then once all that BS is out of the way you can get to the trim that goes around that Cluster. You then remove that and finally you've reached the cluster. Besides the early dash being ugly its really hard to work on. Thats why i did a dash swap on my car to the newer Camaro dash. I can have my cluster out in 5 mins now, and same goes with my radio.

WOW! I didn't know the Camaro dash was that much of a pain. I also upgraded to a 97 bird dash in my 94 (the one in the pic).
