Sneaky Speed

Ok, here's what happened. I raced an '05 GT, I got a jump on him, he matched my speed quickly and SLOOOWLY started to even up to me and finally started to pass me before we had to slow down. So I gave him props on a nice car, said welcome to 8 years ago and went on my way. Well, this is my first loss to a mustang and it sucks.
I want to mod my car, but keep it stock looking. I want to be able to pop the hood and not have any obvious signs to my mods, but I want it to be fast enough to beat the new mustangs. What are some of my options?

Gears. Can't see them so no one will know Headwork, cam if you don't let them listen to the car...to really make things better you'd have to have something noticeable like headers.

Re: Sneaky Speed

It looks like I will get the gears changed.

If I get the heads/cam changed how will that change the sound of the exhaust?

Re: Sneaky Speed

A cam is going to change the sound. How about tires and some suspension work? If you ask me, tires are the best thing you can do to get faster acceleration.

Re: Sneaky Speed

I just bought 4 new tires a week ago, so that is out. How will changing the suspension help?

With the 2OTL exhaust people already think that there are some mods. Will a mild cam change the exhaust so much that everybody could tell? I would expect the camaro experts to hear the difference, but would a regular mustang driver? Also how would it change? Is it louder, softer, or a change in the timing, or the tone?

How would gears change my MPG? I'm looking to keep a reasonable MPG but want a little more kick in the seat when I stomp on it.

Re: Sneaky Speed

Suspension like a tourque arm or SCF's will stregthen up the chassis alot. This mean it will flex less, meaning more power goes to the ground intead of being wasted bending the chassis and on wheel hop.

Re: Sneaky Speed

You will notice a difference with just about any cam that would be worth getting. The smallest cam that most people upgrade to is the LT4 Hotcam, which does have a small lope to it. Anything bigger would easily be distinguishable.

Re: Sneaky Speed

Suspension work is good (especially where you want longevity and consistancy) but won't make the kind of "speed" difference you're looking for.....don't kid yourselves folks.

Since you've already changed your cat-back to the 2OTL, then if you changed the cam, you could always blame a little extra "bark" on the exhaust. It'll be mostly at idle when someone "in the know" would notice a cam that isn't stock, due to the extra lope. Gears can definitely help out your acceleration too.....it depends on what tranny your running (A4 or M6? ).

Re: Sneaky Speed

i seen people running Nitrious and you could not tell by looking under the hood, and hiding the bottle in the spare area, pretty much anything internal engine wise, mount an msd box inside the car, you can gut the cat providing they dont look underneaith the car

now im not sure how the MAF sensor or throttle body would look if changed up

Re: Sneaky Speed

Non noticeables would be airfoil, throttlebody bypass, gears, shiftkit, remove front swaybar, remove interior sound deadner, gut/remove the cat.
