Question SLP exhaust?

My 97 Z has 17' ZR1's, and the tips to an SS exhaust. Both of these are theoretically from the same car. I was told I have the "SS exhaust". Is there any way to confirm if my whole exhaust is from SLP by looking at the piping/muffler?

Reason being is i'm thinking about getting a Hooker Cat-back, is that better than the exhaust from an SS?

(yes, if i was that concerned i would have checked before I bought. i just made sure it was in good shape)

Not sure about checking the piping, but if it is very quiet then slp could be what it is. The hooker will be quiet but louder than the slp. If the exhaust is stock I think you can check the inside of the door and see the codes, but I am not sure.

Ok, i know about the codes on the door. Forgot what the name is. Can I match those to the muffler or something? I was hoping it would be simple, like stamped SLP or something!

the codes won't do much if the exhaust is from another car....SLP only did stuff to the SS...not the Zs

Measure the pipe diameter going from the cat to the muffler. If it is 3", you got the entire exhaust.

Changing it would be a waste of money. If you want a different sound, just put a different muffler on it.

All 3" pipes are the same, as long as it is mandrel bent.

If it is a 1997 SS, then I beleive that the only SLP exhaust available to the SS cars then was the 2otl. I'm pretty sure that the Dual/Dual didn't come out until the LS1 cars in 1998. If it has outlets on both sides, then it is probably a stock Z-28 exhaust or a system that someone put on.

Thanks for the feedback. The car itself is just a Z28...

So I can check the piping for the diameter to see if its the 3" size to verify. If I have the bigger, mandrel bent pipes, the muffler alone would be all I need, correct?

Correct. If you already have a 3" mandrel bent intermediate pipe, there is no sense buying another one. Just have the exhaust shop install the muffler and tips of your choice.
