Slow to fill petrol tank CLICK CLICK CLICK

Is there anyway to speedup the process of filling the gas tank ?
First of all this f-body 1999 model Z28 lives in Australia and has been converted to right hand Drive. The problem is when I try to fill the beast it keeps activating the backflow cutoff on the Gas Pump spout (click click click) Damn annoying, is there any device I could use to help fill the tank quicker ?
I have tried pointing the nozzle in all directions but still I have to fill er very slowly.

Once in awhile that happens to me, but normally I can pump gas full steam ahead with no problems . Have you tried pulling the spout about ~1/2 way out and then pump? Just keep an eye on how much you're putting in, to know when to start easing up on the throttle .

Re: Slow to fill petrol tank CLICK CLICK CLICK

ARRR think I have tried this, will try it tomorrow. The damn pipe to tank goes straight down near vertical from the top of the filler top. Are the US cars F-Body's like that ?

Re: Slow to fill petrol tank CLICK CLICK CLICK

Very often, I have the same exact problem (my car, standard left-hand drive). And I've found that pulling the nozzle slightly out (about 1/3 of the way) does solve it.

Take some pictures of the right hand drive conversion and post them up!

Take as many pictures as you can. There's a lot of people who would be really interested in the conversion here.

Try twisting the handle to get a little different angle.

Re: Slow to fill petrol tank CLICK CLICK CLICK

another thing to check, there should be a vent tube going from the tank back up to the main tube somewhere. It allows air to escape from the tank while filling it. If this tube is not working, you will fill the main tub e going to the tank and trap air in the tank. Suddenly the pump backflow cuts the fuel off. (click) The the fuel runs down and you can continue filling it. Check for a vent line and see if its blocked even there. if not you can try adding one (whick could be alot of work) or just have to live with it.

BTW, pics of a right hand drive F-body are a requirement to come to this board If you got one you must post the pics!!!

Just upload the pics to a host, like http://imageshack.us/

Then, in your post, click the picture icon:, and paste the url of the hosted pic into the dialog box that pops up.

Are you sure it's not just the pumps you're going to? When we got a new gas station right down from my house it would always get like $1.50 in and kick off, but that was about 6 months ago and it's fine now.

You should see some pics of my converted z28 1999 Camaro, I have had to fix a number of small faults since buying the car 6 months ago nothing major touch wood.

There is a picture of the spare wheel with my custom made wheel nut made from a solid piece of aluminium.
Also rear panel screws custom made (near speakers) as plastic ones were shot (cheap original crap)
Under car air spliter made of Stainless Steel and decals made at work.
The side mirror is just a bit of fun.
Conversion done before I bought the car by a company in Queensland Australia pic of plate in photo.
Custom made Dash Mat made last week 160 Dollars AU

Re: Slow to fill petrol tank CLICK CLICK CLICK

Sorry I forgot to say I have tried all the above and the only one that works is if I put hose in tank and push down then pull trigger slowly very slow !!. I had a guy pull up in a family sadan at the pumps, he put in $50 AU in his tank while I got $10 in the same time using the above method

But I still have to check that vent pipe, next Investigation Thanks !!
