Skip Shift?

I just bought a 1999 Camaro SS. Whenver I am in first gear (and even 2nd sometimes), a little indicator light that says "Skip Shift" pops up. What does that mean?

Re: Skip Shift?

it's GM's way of making the car pass for low emissions. there is a selonoid in the trans that is activated to prevent shifting into 2nd. it forces you into 4th.

it only does it under certain conditions, like under 25mph or something and less than 35% throttle...or some rediculous thing.

if you have never been locked out of gear, you probably have the skip shift eliminator.

Re: Skip Shift?

it means you arent driving that hard so the cpu recommands that you skip 2nd and 3rd gear and shift from 1st to 4th. ntext time it comes on tryin shifting while it is on, and it wont let you shift to 2nd it will make it go to 4th gear, its a way of conserving gas

you can either buy a skip shift eliminator which cost about $30 new or you can get a tune for your car and when they tune ask them to get rid of it

How did it almost get you killed? All you had to do was stay in 1st a little longer. No other gear is going to accelerate you faster out of the path of traffic anyway
