signal lever comes out

I am trying to figure out what piece I lost:

The signal lever can be pulled off and, if there was a retaining ring / clip, I don't even see where it would go.

How are they held in place?

There's a screw that threads into the turn signal assembly. #10 here:

it's hard to see from the diagram. On the lever itself, I do not see any spot where a screw could go; it's a simple rod with a groove in it and a couple notches

The MFL just snaps in/out. What it snaps into on the switch might be a little mysterious.

I think there might have been something on the groove, on the stick; I, unfortunately, do not have the 'something' anymore
