Shift light questions

Anyone have one? What is the best one to use that is decent in price? ($50 or less).

Are they easy to wire up? Do I need an aftermarket ignition, or will it work on a stock car? I was looking at this one on ebay for $39:

Any ideas/input/suggestions?

Thanks for any help!

The best one out there is made by harlan engineering. It is 50 bucks, but at times availability is low and you will need to wait for one.

The one you linked a pic too looks good because you don't have to buy different rpm pills(you don't on the harlan either). However, it doesn't look like you have very fine control over when the light will come on especially if that analog dial isn't perfect and if your stock tach is off what are you going to compare it with to set it.

You should be able to wire any shiftlight up to a stock car. Best place is right on the PCM harness and putting the wire through the firewall right there too. Try a search, its like pin 11 or 13 white wire on the PCM. Some lights are compatible with aftermarket ignitions and just plug right in and require no splicing.

I'd get a harlan and be done with it. Order it now though

i have the proform...for the price it's damn good.

yeah the dial isn't all that accurate, but you can fine tune it with a few slow 3rd or 4th gear runs to redline.

i've been pleased

I also have a Proform Shift light works ok so far. Very easy to hook-up no pills to insert.

I have a Harlan, works well. It is very accurate as it reads the RPM directly from the PCM not what your faulty stock tach says it is.

I've heard that this shift light is much better than the harlan. I'm definitely getting a Raptor.

this may seem like a really dumb question but i have a proform shift light and am having trouble hooking it up. which wire exactly do i need to splice into to make it work. i have the instructions but i am having a hard time finding the wire. could someone please tell me exactly which wire in need to splice into on a 97 trans am. like which color connector at the pcm the white wire is at. any help would be great. thanks.

Depends on what you want. I bought a Harlan light because I was going to hide it in the A-Pillar or the A/C vent. I ended up going with the A-Pillar mounting.

If you were going to mount the light in a visible location, then yeah ... the Raptor would look better. Harlan's is just black plastic tube.

But, if it's going to be hidden, the extra $35 for the Raptor is a waste of $$$.
